Rooftop Deck With Outdoor Kitchen & Living Room

This 4th floor rooftop deck with sweeping views of downtown Chicago belongs to a young couple that loves to entertain their friends and family during the summer months.

Their rooftop deck needed an anchoring zone that would maximize the usability of the space during the hot summer days and into the cooler fall days. In addition, they requested different areas where they could host dinner parties, cookouts, movie nights, or larger parties.

The shaded entertainment zone is framed by an overhead structure that provides respite on hot sunny summer days, while the powder coated fire pit is perfect for cool fall afternoons watching TV. Towards the front of the building we created an outdoor dining room illuminated by overhead strand lighting. The adjacent outdoor kitchen boasts clear-coated cedar cladding and a large granite counter space enables the hosts to grill with enough space to put appetizers, freshly cooked food, and fill the sink with ice with a couple of bottles of wine. The kitchen has ample space for storage as well an outdoor-rated Coyote refrigerator.

Throughout the rooftop we used the softness of the cedar to cover several tall vents located along the longest parapet wall as well the rear of the doghouse wall.
